Clean Air Clean Water Film Fest 2016

There’s an abundance of negative information coming to us from all directions these days from every media format available. Need a break? Here’s an opportunity to see and hear some much needed good news! The Clean Air Clean Water Alliance is a unique partnership developed between Clean Air Carolina and the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, representing two key elements for life on this planet: Air and Water. This alliance also brings together two watchdog organizations keeping an eye on the safety and quality of our air and water. In addition, the alliance engages the community in the protection of these essential natural resources.

Once again, the alliance has partnered with CPCC’s Center for Sustainability to offer this free community event at its Central Campus. The event will be held in Tate Hall, 2nd floor of the Overcash Building at 6:30PM on Tuesday, October 25th. Free parking is available in the Faculty and Staff parking lot off 4th Street.

Seven short films will be featured at this event that support the ideas and actions associated with environmental stewardship. Two of those films will showcase the important work of the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation and Clean Air Carolina located in Charlotte. There will be a film from the local curator of the US National Whitewater Center, Cooper Lambla, who has traveled to 20 countries on six continents, mostly by kayak and bike. From the “EXPLORE” series, our selected film asks the question; “What if…?”

Next is a special example of how one person can make a big difference. What if we all did one thing that made a difference? Majora Carter is truly a champion for social justice and environmental stewardship. Our next selected film embraces new technology that is truly unbelievable. “Waterbackpack Paul” revolutionizes the capability of providing clean mobile water across the globe. We’ll close out the film festival with special clips from the award winning film, “Racing Extinction”. Through storytelling and amazing images, a small group of environmental stewards brings us very compelling reasons to care about wildlife and their habitat – both very dependent on clean air and clean water.

The audience will hear from our panel of specialist who will comment on each film and take questions from the audience. Our distinguished panel members include:

Emilee Syrewicze – Executive Director, Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation
Terry Lansdell – Program Director, Clean Air Carolina
Dr. Rose Mary Seymour – Director of CPCC’s Center for Sustainability
Ebenezer Gujjarlapudi – LUESA Director (Mecklenburg County Land Use & Environmental Services Agency)
